The impact is “real, measurable”, conservatively estimated, additional, permanent, independently auditable, and transparently presented results.
Carbon neutrality is a complex subject. We prefer to simply explain the facts. The purchase funds methane reduction by keeping organic waste out of landfills. After fulfilment, the credits are retired to your account and the impact is recorded. Your travel emissions remain; this purchase does not erase them.
The biowaste credit stack includes a Carbon Credit (from reduced landfill methane) and a Recycling Credit (from composted organic waste) traceable to single waste unit (MassID) recorded and publicly accessible on the Carrot ledger. The funds from each purchase are allocated to all of the project and integrity building developers and the distribution is viewable upon checkout. Methane reduction is worth >4X the value of carbon on near-term climate cooling (Carbon Containment Lab 2025), which at US$30/t-CO2e (valuation of reduction over mitigation) yields $120/t-CO2e, lower than the average price of biochar at US$135/t-CO2e (CDR.fyi) for biomass incineration. The recycling credit is valued at an average price of $33.53/ton, priced as the co-benefits produced through a separate methodology and verification model. The combined price of the stack is $153.53/t-CO2e creating a new premium category for waste methane credits, called "Circularity" launched in partnership with AlliedOffsets to differentiate from landfill gas destruction and utilization, presented during Climate Week New York 2026. The biowaste credit stack enables not only methane reduction and the build out of critical infrastructure, but also pulls recycling policy forward and funds system change toward circularity. The cost will decrease progressively with economies of scale, ultimately delivering on the promise of achieving net-cost savings at a system level in the waste management methane category (UNEP - Methane Status Report 2025). This is the circular transition.
